Meditation Machine ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Meditation Machine mobile application and website at www.meditation-machine.net. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — your name and email address when you register.
- Payment information — processed entirely by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and account tier but never handle raw card numbers.
- Shipping address — collected via Stripe Checkout for device orders (Device Backer and Major Backer tiers) and used solely for order fulfillment.
- Prayer session data — session timestamps, prayer type, mystery set, and completion status. This is used to generate your personal prayer statistics.
- Prayer card content — intentions, meditations, and reflections you submit to generate AI prayer cards. Public and anonymous cards are shared with other users in the prayer deck.
- Device information — your paired Meditation Machine device serial number and firmware version, used to provide OTA firmware updates.
Device Permissions
- Camera — used only to scan the QR code on your Meditation Machine device during initial device registration. We do not record, store, or transmit camera images.
- Bluetooth — used to connect to your Meditation Machine device over BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy). No Bluetooth data is transmitted to our servers.
- Location (Android) — required by Android OS to perform Bluetooth scanning. We do not collect, use, or store your location.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate your account and authenticate you in the app
- To fulfill device orders and ship hardware to the address you provided
- To generate AI-powered prayer cards using your submitted intentions and meditations
- To display your prayer statistics and history in the app
- To send transactional emails (order confirmation, email verification, password reset)
- To deliver firmware updates to your paired device
- To enforce monthly AI card limits based on your account tier
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management (stripe.com/privacy)
- OpenAI — AI generation of prayer card text and images (openai.com/policies/privacy-policy)
- Contextual AI — retrieval-augmented generation for Catholic source material (contextual.ai/privacy)
- Amazon Web Services (S3) — storage for generated prayer card images and firmware files
- Resend — transactional email delivery (resend.com/legal/privacy-policy)
- Railway — backend infrastructure hosting
We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
Prayer Card Visibility
When you create a prayer card you choose its visibility:
- Public — appears in other users' prayer decks with your username shown.
- Anonymous — appears in other users' decks but your name is hidden.
- Private — only visible to you.
You can change a card's visibility or pause it at any time from within the app.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Prayer session records and card content are retained indefinitely to support your prayer history and the shared prayer community. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
The Meditation Machine app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or a notice in the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
